Proletariat Travel : Hiking Cave Hill – Belfast, Northern Ireland

The last time I climbed this hill was probably 16 years ago and boy have things changed. Not with the hill, the hill is the same hill it has always been: at 1200 feet above sea-level you can see all of Belfast plus the Isle of Man, and Scotland! What’s really changed is my lungs and legs. This used to be a relatively easy hike for me, but this go around I had to take a few breaks. We started at the bottom of Cave Hill at Belfast Castle.

The tulips were in bloom and some people were getting married…

Robert and Leslie took the lead and started hiking up the steep trail…

I posed for a photo completely out of breath while a cyclist pedaled up the rocky incline just to rub in my American laziness…

We hiked some more!

At this point I could see the “devil’s vagina.” Not sure if that is what the locals call it, but it seemed to suit the location for me. After having my way with the devil’s vagina, I paused for a moment to collect my thoughts…

Success! We reached the summit, planted our flag, and quickly ran down cave hill to the nearest McDonalds.
