Ain’t Them Bodies Saints is a movie by David Lowery starring Casey Affleck and Rooney Mara (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo). The story is about the two, a young couple of thieves, who get caught and when Rooney Mara’s character shoots a cop, her husband played by Casey Affleck decides to take the fall for it and go to prison. While Affleck is in prison he gets word of Mara having his baby and Affleck decides to break out of prison to meet up with his two girls.
Let me start by saying this movie was phenomenal. It was sad and super suspenseful, but also had action and beauty. The cinematography reminded me of another one of my favorite films, No Country For Old Men, but that could also be just because that’s one of the only other modern westerns that would fit the genre. Everyone in this film did an excellent job at playing their characters and the movie just kept escalating with a web-like plot that hinted at what might happen, but you were never really sure until the end. This film is up for the Grand Jury prize at Sundance I will say it will be hard to beat. Keep your eyes out for this one in 2013 – I’m sure it will have a theatrical release.
