Space invader has been killing it for ever and absolutely has my respect. After seeing this he’ll have yours as well.
Invader was doing his thing well before the street art explosion of the early 2000’s. He was the first person I recall that was really doing illegal work other than graffiti that was really thinking outside of the box. Since the likes of COST and REVS it seems there has been a constant one ups manship for finding new ways to get over and his approach was solid as a rock.
Now, I can only imagine how boring it must be to make mosaics out of Rubiks Cubes all day only to risk jail time for affixing them to national monuments world wide. Despite this, Invader seems to always find little ways to bring something new to his craft. Recently two of his installations really caught my eye.
Jason deCaires Taylor, known for his underwater sculptural coral reefs, provided the most recent site for the French artist. Invader got over by getting under and put his work on one of Taylor’s famed sculpture parks in Cancun, Mexico.
After previously failing an attempt at the same stunt, Invader has actually invaded space. Launching from Miami he affixed one of his tiled pieces to a helium balloon fitted with a camera and GPS to document its trip. Amazing.
This is amazing. I still get stoked when I see one of his NY pieces when I’m walking around. Invader will always have respect in the game.
