Brooke Shields photo: Art or Child Porn?

A photograph taken 30 years ago of a 10-year-old Brooke Shields is the center of controversy in a British art gallery exhibit. The work titled “Spiritual America” is a photo of a prepubescent Shields, naked, wet from a bath, and made up with lipstick, mascara and eye shadow. If you don’t want to see the image don’t click continue… “Spiritual America” by artist Richard Prince was to be shown in an exhibit called “Pop Life: Art In A Material World” at the Tate Modern Gallery in London. The gallery decided to withdraw the photograph from its exhibit after a visit by officers from the Obscene Publications Unit of the Metropolitan Police, reported The Telegraph .

Police arrived Wednesday night amid concerns that the image could be in breach of child pornography laws. A Scotland Yard spokesman said it was working with gallery staff to ensure they did not “break the law or cause any offense to their visitors.”
