Ryan Hope’s debut film, Skin, is a documentary that tests the boundaries of art and the human body, Skin is a dark, stylish examination of tattoo culture as high art.
I am looking forward to seeing this film. However, the question that I must ask myself going into this film is what statement is SKIN trying to make? Is SKIN trying to express the true artistic process that tattoo artists (often not seen a real artists) endure during their quest to create a new piece or is SKIN trying to create a sort of hierarchical / classism around tattoo culture. The popularity of so many glam tattoo shows (Miami Ink/LA Ink, Etc) makes it difficult to imagine a film being created that accurately represents the tattoo industry but I will not form a judgement until I see the film. I hope it is great!
