I really don’t go to NYC as much as I would like to. So when I do make the bus ride, I make sure to pack in as many things as I can handle. When I posted earlier about the opening, I knew there was no way I was missing this one.

This trip has been extremely inspirational for a stencil artist like myself and it has only fueled my creativity. Time to hit the studio!

For starters, if you have not already checked it out, swing by Woodward Gallery for Kenji Nakayama’s solo show. It is absolutely incredible and is sure to please the harshest of critics. It runs through July 7th so you have some time to save up of one of his new pieces!

Needless to say, the whole TTHU crew was there and things got crazy pretty fast. Yours truly forgot he even had a camera and Mrs ALPH was to busy making sure we didn’t go to jail to document the evening. Nothing better than celebrating Cinco De Mayo by eating Vietnamese food. Good times were had that could only happen in NYC. We woke up in Harlem Sunday morning, wiped the Jameson from our eyes and wondered around the city for a day.

First thing I saw when I woke up was this nice BANKSY print.

Also found this poster back from HERM’s first annual pumpkin party. This led me to the conclusion that we somehow ended up at his pad the night before. The poster has a pretty good roll call of tags on it. Brings back memories from another awesome night that I hardly remember!

We met up with my man Bobby Fischer and headed over to Eden Fine Art to scope out the space. They recently hung some of my work, help a brother out and take a look if you are on 50th and Madison.

So after walking around all afternoon and hitting some watering holes and raising some ruckus, we came upon the highline. Absolutely beautiful, especially the graffiti. Some work in here by SETUP, RIME, ORDER, VIZIE, INKHEAD, COST, REVS, SACE, MARTY, KATSU and of course ATAK. ATAK is on full on beast mode right now.

So on the way up I noticed this on a nearby roof but didn’t think anything of it. On the way back down I realized it was KATSU and went back to flick it.

A little further along there were some parts under construction exposing some older graffiti through cracks in the wall.

Lots of people taking photos of people taking photos of people. New trend?

All in all this was an incredible trip. Seriously, a great 24 hours. If I am ever to tell the whole story it will be after the statute of limitations runs out because the shit was fucking bonkers. The other 100 or so photos taken were a little too incriminating to blog about. To put it simply, my 10 year career of riding the Lucky Star/Fung Wah once a month may have finally come to a tragic end. That shit finally got a little to sketchy!

Congratulations to Kenji and thanks to Bobby Fischer, HERM, LAZAR and the rest of the crew for a great trip.

When your art is this badass, it usually comes with a certain arrogance. But when it comes to Kenji, he is the most humble, honest, respectful, a little bit shy, and straight up an all around good dude. So you can imagine that his first NYC solo show this past Saturday (May 6th), at Woodward Gallery, was packed with familiar faces and new admirers.

After a super successful opening, you have to travel with your party of 15 to your local Vietnamese place for some grub. Luckily they could accomodate our party in 5 minutes… Unreal!

And while your at it, why not tell the waiter that it is Big Jus’ birthday, definitely was not, and make him stand on a chair while everyone sings…

YUP!

Then after that, hit the bars hard for a night of shenanigans.

This would be when the good camera went away, and the phone became the lens. I would much rather have a broken phone then my nikon…

The morning came with the consequences of a good night, the hangover that everyone was feeling. This quickly being cured by a latte, super nice weather, some grub in the park, and a nice Retna piece.

All in all it was an amazing trip filled with great people, amazing art, ridiculous conversations, and a ton of booze. Kenji’s hard work has gotten him everything he has and I am glad I was there to reap the benefits! To Kenji!

Last night Neon Trees played The Bowery Ballroom in New York City on the eve of their record release. Their second LP “Picture Show” is out today. There are a bunch of jams on the record and one of those is featured above.Neon Trees performed their new song “Lessons In Love”, a song also featured on the new Kaskade record (Neon Trees X Kaskade) to a sold out venue. If you dig the track pick up a copy of the record and catch the band on tour near you.

If you can’t tell by the side ways video I shot of Tommy, I also was tore up by his set! It was another great night in the city! This video doesn’t really do Tommy justice so take a look around online, Spotify, etc and listen to his songs, they are great!

Kate Moss is everywhere is New York City. You can’t escape her face when wandering SoHo, LES, Midtown, etc. If you have been in the city and have not seen these posters, open your eyes. Supreme killed it picking her to model! I wonder if the price tag was killer?!?! This poster has gotten picked up (or appears to have been) more than the GagaXSupreme ad and I think that has to do with believability. Everyone knows Kate Moss is an iconic super model whose younger years were spent partying with rock stars, doing drugs and being the bad ass of the runway (or so the tabloids say). Gaga on the other hand, well, I think the Supreme demographic understands that Gaga is a pop star and the Supreme campaign was just another look for her in her quest for ubiquity. I don’t wear Supreme, I don’t prefer Gaga over Moss or visa versa. Just seeing all of these posters all over the city and subsequently features on the internet inspired this rant. It is also a good lesson for brands. If you can find an ambassador for your brand whose real life reflects some of the elements of your brand (hence believability) then you are in it to win it.
