Last week I attended the opening of “Streets of The World” at the Opera Gallery in SoHo. The exhibit was excellent featuring well known street artists from around the world including Ron English (New York), The London Police (The Neatherlands), Kid Zoom (Australia), ROA (Belgium), DALeast (China), Saber (USA) and many more. Make sure to catch this one! Photos after the jump Read More
Last night Neon Trees played The Bowery Ballroom in New York City on the eve of their record release. Their second LP “Picture Show” is out today. There are a bunch of jams on the record and one of those is featured above.Neon Trees performed their new song “Lessons In Love”, a song also featured on the new Kaskade record (Neon Trees X Kaskade) to a sold out venue. If you dig the track pick up a copy of the record and catch the band on tour near you.
Last night CURSIVE played Bowery Ballroom in New York City. It was a great set packed with jams from Domestica up until current Cursive. Tim Kasher was on his best behavior and told some funny stories about perverts in the movie theatre. Enjoy the video and go see CURSIVE if they come to a town near you. If this is the first you are hearing of the band, check out the album “The Ugly Organ” which is by far one of my favorite albums of all time.
UGLY PARTS is an old school 80′s style hardcore band with modern influences from New Brunswick New Jersey. I was able to check the band out a few weekends ago in Bushwick at a bar/gallery space. The band is super tight and the front man knows how to thrash the fuck about! Check out some videos below.
Kate Moss is everywhere is New York City. You can’t escape her face when wandering SoHo, LES, Midtown, etc. If you have been in the city and have not seen these posters, open your eyes. Supreme killed it picking her to model! I wonder if the price tag was killer?!?! This poster has gotten picked up (or appears to have been) more than the GagaXSupreme ad and I think that has to do with believability. Everyone knows Kate Moss is an iconic super model whose younger years were spent partying with rock stars, doing drugs and being the bad ass of the runway (or so the tabloids say). Gaga on the other hand, well, I think the Supreme demographic understands that Gaga is a pop star and the Supreme campaign was just another look for her in her quest for ubiquity. I don’t wear Supreme, I don’t prefer Gaga over Moss or visa versa. Just seeing all of these posters all over the city and subsequently features on the internet inspired this rant. It is also a good lesson for brands. If you can find an ambassador for your brand whose real life reflects some of the elements of your brand (hence believability) then you are in it to win it.
The video for The Death Set’s “They Come To Get Us” is bad ass. Flying saucers, comic book heroes, and a green screen burning city are just a few of the highlights, not to mention a great song. Musically it reminds me of OLD school Beastie Boys. If you get a chance to check these guys out live, it is quite a show. Check out some of the awesome stills below.
A big shout out goes to my buddy Clams Rockefeller for blessing my inbox today with these amazing photos of The Seventh Letter collective member, Retna painting the Bowery wall. Myself and the readers of TTHU owe you one.
If you’re not familiar with Clams’ photos, then take some time to peruse the photography on his blog and prepare to see some serious shit.
