The Future of Brooklyn

August 23rd, 2010 | Headlines | 1 Comment

You are staring at two locally made, hand crafted Amish scooters. It is only a matter of months before Brooklyn gives up on the fixed gear fad and moves onto a new, more obscure form of cycling, in this case I guess it would be pushing since these are scooters. You can pick up one of these for $245 HERE. Coming soon: custom foot straps, shortened handlebars and scooter stand training classes!

Nokia’s Bicycle Powered Phone Charger

June 4th, 2010 | Gear | 1 Comment

How cool is this? Hook this charger up to your bike and every 10 mins you bike creates 30 minutes of talk time. These were originally designed for the African market where apparently everyone has cell phones but not adequate power sources. They will only cost 30 euros or about $35. Read More

High fashion is crazy. If you slap a logo on a product, regardless of the quality, it automatically increases the price exponentially. I am curious how much the raw materials cost to engineer a $12,000 bicycle. [via]

Get Your Brakes with Coasties

coasties

Starting at $140 you can purchase an 18 tooth cog by Coasties that will allow you to have the fixed gear aesthetic but with breaks and free wheel coasting ability. [via] I am sure some people will bitch that if you are riding with brakes then you are pussy but whatever. Riding a fixed gear is a trend like any other, riding a bike is a trend like any other, brakes or no brakes. I can only equate it to the kids in high school that would spent $8,000 pimping out their $500 civic with shitty spoilers, ground effects and other shit that actually had zero effect on the cars performance.

Boston from Montague | Folding Fixed Gear

montague-boston
Montague has come out with an awesome folding fixed gear entitled “Boston”. The idea behind the bike is that many city dwellers are stuck in small apartments with no where safe to keep their wheels.
